How long is my ESTA valid for?

If not revoked, your travel authorization is valid for two years from the date of issue or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The Permit Approved screen shows the expiration date of your travel authorization.

Your ESTA authorization is normally valid for multiple trips for two years (starting from the date of authorization) or until your passport expires, whichever comes first*. This means that as long as you received your ESTA travel authorization, you do not need to reapply during the validity period.

If your ESTA expires while you are in the United States, it will not affect your departure.

Note: It is important to print a copy of the document for your records. A printout is not required when you arrive in the U.S., as officers have the information electronically.

Obtaining an ESTA does not mean you can stay in the United States for two years. It only allows you to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which allows you to stay in the United States for no more than 90 days. If you plan to stay in the U.S. for more than 90 days, you must obtain a visa from your nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

*If you get a new passport or change your name, gender, or country of citizenship, you must apply for a new travel authorization. You must also do this if one of your answers to any of the VWP eligibility questions changes. A fee of 85.00Є is charged for each new application you submit.

Note: CBP recommends that you apply for ESTA at the time you book your trip, but at least 72 hours before boarding the plane.
